Please read! Important City Council meeting this Tuesday!
Dear Friends of Willow Glen Little League:
As you may know, our league has been working with the City of San Jose and the San Jose Parks and Recreation Department to construct a new concession stand for use by our league and other groups.
After several years of political delays, we are 1 step away from getting this project completed in time for our 2017 season. This coming Tuesday, August 16th, the San Jose City Council will have on their agenda the vote to approve or disapprove the construction of our new concession stand. The meeting begins at 1:30 P.M. and the vote on our snack shack will be at the beginning of the meeting. We anticipate the measure to come up at about 1:45 P.M.
We are reaching out to our friends and neighbors asking if you are able, to attend the San Jose City Council Meeting and show your support for the approval of the measure to build our new snack shack, storage and restroom facilities.
This project as planned will be a full service concession building with plumbing, sinks, storage and adequate power. A positive vote in favor of this project will mean that construction will begin in the fall with completion in time for our 2017 season.
Though our league enjoys favorable visibility with our neighbors, there is a small but very vocal and committed group aligned with the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association who wish to delay or disrupt this great opportunity for our league. We expect this group to bring about 8-10 people to Tuesdays council meeting speaking against this project.
If your schedule allows, please join your neighbors and friends at this Tuesday afternoon’s council meeting to speak in favor of this project. Before the council vote, there will be a public comment period allowing for anyone to speak up to 2 minutes in length about this project. The more speakers we can recruit to speak in favor of this project, the better chances we have in drowning out the self- interested activists who wish to prevent this project from moving forward.
We would love to have current and former players in our league not only attend the meeting but also speak during the comment period in favor of this project. Having a room full of players dressed in their jerseys and hats will help send a message to the council that this project should be passed. Attending this meeting with your child provides a civics lesson that cannot be experienced in a classroom.
If you can join us, there is validated parking underneath City Hall. The validated parking entrance is on 6th Street between San Fernando and Santa Clara Streets.
Should you be interested in speaking on behalf of the league, please let us know and we can assist by providing additional talking points that provides additional context on the project. After lots of efforts by so many, we are so close to getting this project over the last hurdle and to completion.
Please join us if your schedule allows.
Thank you for your continued support of one of the many things that makes Willow Glen a great community to be a part of.
