2024 Majors Rules Updates/Clarifications v1

V1 2024-03-08: Initial Release

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WGLL Majors follows the Green Book (go here to learn more and download it).

Other important clarifications:

End of Game:

6 innings is the maximum amount of innings that may be played. No time limit applied to Majors games. However, rain or lack of light may cause the game to end prior to 6 innings being played. No inning may be started after sunset (sunset as defined by the national weather service for that specific day).  It is to the umpires discretion as to whether or not rain is sufficient enough to call the game. If due to light, weather, safety or other unforeseen reason the final inning can not be completed, the score at the end of the last completed inning will determine the game.

If after 3 innings, one team is ahead by 15 or more runs, the game will end and the team that is ahead will be the winner of the game.

If after 4 innings, one team is ahead by 10 or more runs, the game will end and the team that is ahead will be the winner of the game.

If after 5 innings, one team is ahead by 8 or more runs, the game will end and the team that is ahead will be the winner of the game.

Dropped third strike:

A dropped third strike allows the batter to attempt to run to first base if:

  • there is a runner on first base with 0 or 1 outs, the batter may not run to first, batter is out.

Or

  • If there is a runner on first base but there are 2 outs then the batter may attempt to run to first base with other base runner(s) advancing.

If the third strike is caught by the catcher, the umpires shall loudly call “out” so the batter running toward first is aware, and then the batter must clear the field of play.

Defensive Innings Requirement:

Every player on the team must play at least 2 defensive innings (6 outs) in the field during a full 6-inning game.  However, we encourage all players to play 3 defensive innings to give them the opportunity to grow and learn.

Continuous Batting Order:

The batting order is continuous, meaning every player will bat in order without exception.  You may not exclude any player from batting(except for medical reasons) and any batter that does not bat in their respective place in the order is an automatic out.

Pitchers/Catchers:

  1. For the month of March, all players have a max pitch count of 50 pitches. Beginning April, refer to the Green Book for players pitch count max.

    1. Pitch count is determined by age and rest days determined by # of pitches.

  2. Catchers who catch 4 innings may not also pitch that day.

  3. Pitchers who pitch 40 pitches may not also catch that day.
